Safety Advisor – Edmonton
WESTCAN BULK TRANSPORT LTD.
REPORTS TO: Safety & Training Manager
INDUSTRY: Transportation/Trucking

Reporting to the Safety and Training Manager, the Safety Advisor will ensure the continued corporate safety culture remains alive and will support all aspects of the Safety Management System (SMS). Other responsibilities include:

Responsibilities:

INCIDENT PREVENTION & MITIGATION
• Investigate all injuries, motor vehicle collisions, spills, mixes and related incidents
• Prepare investigative documents to meet government agencies, adjuster, internal files, and customer documentation requirements
• Mitigate accident scene including clean up, environmental concerns
• Recommend disciplinary measures towards drivers (CPPI, Efficiency Deductions)
• Participate in Incident Review Committee as required
DRIVER ROAD TESTS / EVALUATIONS
• Evaluate and document driver road tests oversee areas of concern
• Complete Job Observations
• Participate in Job Hazard Assessments
• Complete weekly review of key driver monitoring issue ie: speed, hours, hard braking through the On board Truck Computer (OTP)
CUSTOMER SITE VISITS
• Visit new customer sites and open communication lines with customers
• Process a site survey form including access, safety concerns, loading/unloading facilities and any other requirements
• Set up for LAKUS deliveries
• Prepare site maps / annual review of site maps
TRAINING
• Facilitate In cab training and in field training
• Conduct and assist at toolbox meetings

Qualifications:

• Three years’ related safety experience
• Minimum Grade 12 with courses in Accident and Incident Investigations, Safety and Environmental Issues, and Safety Leadership Training
• Class 1 driver’s license is an asset
• Clean driver’s abstract
• TDG, WHMIS, PDIC, H2S, CPPI and First Aid certificates
• Knowledge of the transportation industry
• Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently; maintain confidentiality
• Proficient in a Windows system environment
• Ability to travel to various sites as required

Hours/Shift: Full-time, days; available to be on-call to attend to safety related concerns
